
Hampton Court Palace is a royal palace in the East Molesey, Greater London; it has not been inhabited by the British royal family since the 18th century. The palace is located 11.7 miles (18.8 km) south west of Charing Cross and upstream of Central London on the River Thames. Hampton Court is one of those places where you can spend a couple of hours or a day. The most popular is the Tudor section with Tudor kitchens and great Hall. The driest is probably the Georgian section. It was originally built for Cardinal Wolsey, a favourite of King Henry VIII, circa 1514.
Hampton Court Palace is the former home of the flamboyant King Henry VIII, he extended and developed this grand palace after acquiring it in the 1520's. Its many royal occupants have ensured the palace has fabulous furnishings, tapestries and paintings. Set in 60 acres of formal gardens, which include the famous maze and Great Vine, this palace is well worth a visit.
Today, the palace is open to the public, and is a major tourist attraction.
