Tate Modern - Make Great To Your Visit

The galleries are housed in the former Bankside Power Station, which was originally designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the architect of Battersea Power Station, and built in two stages between 1947 and 1963. Tate Modern is a modern art gallery located in London, United Kingdom. It is Britain's national gallery of international modern art and forms part of the Tate group.
In the late 1980s it became clear to Tate that its collection had outgrown its home on Millbank. It was decided to create a new gallery to house Tate's international modern art, and a search began for a suitable site to build on, or a building that could be converted. In 1981 Bankside Power Station closed due to increased oil prices, making other methods of generating electricity more efficient.
Tate Modern has attracted more visitors than originally expected and plans to expand it have been in preparation for some time. These plans have focused on three areas for expansion all to the south of the building:

The area no longer required by EDF Energy.

Three large, disused, underground oil tanks originally used by the power station.

A major new extension building to be built above the oil drums.



Normally General admission is free, The Opening time is as Sunday - Thursday (10.00 - 18.00), Friday and Saturday (10.00-22.00) and Last admission into exhibitions is at 17.15. It is closed On 24, 25 and 26 December. You can buy "London Pass" and visit 71 Attractions in London instead of buying tickets at each attraction. It can save your time and energy.
